How Long Should a Resume Be in 2026? One Page vs Two Pages
The most common resume length question — 'how many pages?' — has a boring but useful answer: one page for most people, two pages when you have 10+ years of relevant, results-driven experience. The rest is judgment about what to cut, what to keep, and how to format so ATS still parses it.
The one-page rule and when to break it
Recruiters at large companies spend 6–8 seconds on first scan. One page forces you to prioritize: recent roles in full detail, older roles summarized, no filler. That discipline reads as professionalism.
Two pages is not a failure — it is expected for senior ICs, managers, academics, and anyone with 10+ years, patents, or publications. The threshold is not years alone but density of relevant, measurable outcomes that a hiring manager will actually read on page two.
What to cut on a one-page resume
Remove roles older than 10–15 years unless directly relevant; summarize as 'Additional Experience' with company/role/years only. Cut low-impact bullets ('Responsible for...') and replace with verb + result + number. Drop high school if you have a degree, and drop GPA unless 3.5+ and recent.
