Resume PDF vs LinkedIn: When Each One Gets You the Interview

The PDF is the application of record
When you click Apply on a company site, the ATS stores whatever you upload. That file should use standard headings and real text. A LinkedIn URL in the header helps; it does not replace the file.
Export PDF from a template built for parsing. Canva-style graphics belong on a portfolio, not in the ATS upload, unless the employer is explicitly design-first.
LinkedIn is discovery, not the ATS file
Recruiters search LinkedIn for titles and keywords, then ask for a resume. Keep your headline close to the jobs you want. About can be warmer than a resume summary. Dates must still match the PDF or you create a background-check problem.
Turn on Open to Work only if you accept the visibility tradeoff. It is unrelated to whether your PDF parses.
How to keep them honest
Same employers, same titles, same years. If you tailor a PDF title for one posting, do not invent a promotion on LinkedIn. If you add a project to the PDF, you can add it to Featured on LinkedIn later.

Facts and dates must match. The PDF can emphasize different bullets for each job. LinkedIn stays a stable public version.
Does LinkedIn replace ATS?
No. Company career sites still parse your upload.
