Does Resume.io Charge for PDF Download? Free Alternatives (2026)
The question 'does Resume.io charge for PDF download?' usually comes after someone has already filled in their work history. Short answer: clean PDF export is generally a paid feature. Longer answer: several builders let you export free if you know where to look.
What Resume.io's free tier actually offers
Resume.io allows building and previewing on the free tier, but PDF download typically requires a paid subscription. [VERIFY: Resume.io current free vs paid export rules]
Comparison table
| Tool | Free PDF | Account | Watermark | Free templates |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FreeResume.me | Yes | No | No | 10 |
| Resume.io | Paid plan | Yes | Varies | Limited free |
| FlowCV | Yes | Yes | No | Limited |
| Zety | No | Yes | On free tier | Few |
Resume.io's free vs paid boundary
Resume.io invests heavily in design templates and a smooth editor. Like Zety, the business model often places PDF export on the paid side of the line. That is not hidden malice — it is subscription economics — but it is frustrating when you discover it at download time.
Before paying, decide whether you need one PDF or ongoing edits across many applications. One-off job seekers often overpay for monthly tools they use once.
Free export paths
FreeResume.me and FlowCV both offer free PDF export with different tradeoffs (no account vs sign-in required). FreeResume.me adds a browser-based ATS checker; Resume.io markets its own paid ATS features on higher tiers.

Where FreeResume.me is not the best fit
- PDF export sends résumé JSON to our server for rendering — transient, not stored as a document file
- Fewer design variations than Resume.io's full catalog
- No mobile app — browser-based only
