What an ATS resume checker actually measures

Applicant tracking systems store your file, parse text into fields, and rank you against a requisition. A public checker cannot reproduce every vendor’s proprietary ranker. Use the missing-keyword list as a checklist of truths. If you used PostgreSQL and the posting says Postgres, add the posting’s spelling once. If you never used Terraform, leave it off and apply to a closer match.

The fastest legitimate ways to raise a score

Put a Skills line that uses the employer’s nouns. Then weave two or three of those nouns into experience bullets that already have numbers. Do not dump twenty tools in the summary. Parsers and humans both punish stuffing.

Replace tables, text boxes, and skill bars with a single column of real HTML text. If you must use a two-column template, keep job titles and dates as selectable text in the main column.

What the score will not fix

A checker cannot invent seniority you do not have. It cannot hide a two-year gap. It cannot make a two-column infographic parse like a Harvard-style one-pager. If the role requires a license you lack, no keyword trick helps.

It also cannot see culture fit, referrals, or whether the requisition is already filled. Treat ATS work as table stakes: necessary, not sufficient.
