One-Page vs Two-Page Resume: Which Length to Use in 2026

Most people should use a one-page resume. Use two pages when you have roughly a decade of relevant, measurable work a hiring manager will actually read. ATS does not dock you for a second page; it docks you for tables and graphics. FreeResume.me’s free plan includes one resume and a watermark-free PDF.

One page is a priority tool

A one-page limit forces you to keep the last 10–15 years of relevant work and cut the rest to a single “Additional experience” line. That is usually what a recruiter wanted anyway.

If you cannot fit one page, shrink spacing before deleting your best metric. Then delete duties that any holder of the job would have done.

Two pages need a self-contained first page

Page one should still hire you: summary, skills, and the most recent roles. Page two holds earlier jobs, certifications, and selected projects. Add page numbers.

Do not split one job’s bullets across a page break if you can avoid it. Do not use page two for hobbies.

What to cut, what to keep

Cut: high school, GPA after a few years of work, every programming language you sampled, photos for US corporate roles.

Keep: licenses, security clearances, named systems, and numbers. Those are why page two exists when it exists.

FAQs

Is a two-page resume okay in 2026?

Yes for senior ICs, managers, and people with dense relevant history. Freshers and most mid-level ICs should stay on one page.

Does ATS prefer one page?

No. ATS prefers parseable text. A clean two-page file beats a cramped infographic one-pager.

What about academic CVs?

CVs are a different document and run long. Academic CVs on FreeResume.me are Pro.
